Boarding Pass – Rubi Jones

I first met Rubi Jones on the Anthology magazine shoot last fall, and most recently she was one of my roommates in Berlin. She also happens to be the one who cuts my hair in Paris and gave me my fabulous bangs. The great thing about Rubi is that she makes hair – a topic I typically wouldn't be drawn to – fun and interesting through her blog She Let's Her Hair Down. She often works on Fashion Week runway shows and all sorts of cool jobs, and this weekend I even got to watch her in action giving a free chignon workshop at Wanderlust Paris (she'll be there the first 2 Saturdays of each month all summer). The fabulous thing about being a hairstylist is that she's always talking to people and getting new insights, which also happen to make for great travel advice. Thanks, Rubi! –Anne

most memorable trip in 2 sentences or less:
Stanton and I took a road trip around Northern Spain in 2008. We were both working a lot at the time and the trip was a true vacation.
how do you prepare for a trip?
I'm a hairstylist so I always ask clients or co-workers for recommendations. I also research local blogs in the cities I'm going to and try to find places to eat and things to do that way.
how do you record your travels when you're traveling?
I take a lot of photos, with a lot of different cameras and take free postcards from anywhere I can.

what is your favorite thing to photograph in a new place?
Clouds
on an average, how many pictures to you take on a trip?
Oh man, I don't even know. I took like 6 photos in Berlin and 400 in India. Not sure why, it just happened that way.
what's in your "designer travel kit" ?
80's film Minolta, duct-taped holga, then I choose between either a One Step Polaroid camera, instax wide, or instax mini and of course my iPhone. Stanton is in charge of our point-and-shoot.
what do you do after a trip? how long after a trip does this happen?
Develop my film as soon as possible, blog about it, and look at my photos a few times then stick them in a box for my future children to discover.
favorite souvenir/thing to bring back?
Candy, especially Kit Kats. (Did you know there are over 100 different flavors in Japan alone?!)
