100 Years of Le Negresco

Le Negresco is one of those magical places that makes you feel like you're traveling back in time. I first visited the hotel back in January on a press trip (remember their breakfast room that resembles a carousel?). I was honored to be invited back in July for their centenaire celebration celebrating 100 years of their "art de vivre." I wanted to do something special for the occasion, so I decided to shoot a little video on my iPhone. Funny, but it makes feel like I'm traveling back in time to the beginnings of the hotel.

The celebration started with a photo shoot in front of the hotel (yes, those are the standard uniforms!), followed by a cocktail in the grand salon, the presentation of the cake, and dinner at the Michelin star restaurant le Chantecler . The hotel, and its unique style, would not be what is today without Mme. Augier – the woman in the green chair in the video – who purchased the hotel with her husband when she insisted on finding a space for her mother who needed an elevator. The style is one-of-a-kind, which feels like a different "universe" on each floor, mixing time, place and space. They special gave me a "yellow" room, remembering I said that was my favorite color from my last trip. Even the likes of Michael Jackson insisted on knowing where he could get his own glitter clad tub. It is truly a special place. Even if you don't stay, you must pay a visit: visit the grand salon/gallery, the bathrooms (trust me), and enjoy a "Negresco coupe" at their carousel restaurant, La Rontonde, which was quite possibly the best ice cream treat – with raspberry sauce – I've ever had (I had two in two days!).

Don't miss Manuel's of En Mode Fashion's post from the Centenaire celebrations here! He did a great job capturing the evening.

Congratulations on 100 years, Le Negresco! Follow their Facebook here.

The video was shot on an iPhone 3GS using the 8mm app to give it an old quality, which I then edited it entirely in the new Photoshop 6. Technology is amazing! Photos are from my Instagram.

This trip was sponsored by Back2Basic and Le Negresco, but all thoughts are my own. Thanks for a magical trip!

  3. Just catching up on your blog and wanted to say how much I've enjoyed it. The photos of the mannequin heads on the toilet doors at the Negresco made me giggle: my sister and I had a mini photoshoot there a few years ago - evidence is here! http://hintstoladytravellers.blogspot.ie/2011/01/nice-charmante-elegante-chouette-super.html

Nice (sorry, no pun intended) to find someone else who shares your sense of the ridiculous.
