Boarding Pass – Amanda Jane Jones

It's an extra small world when you realize you've met someone in hindsight. One day on twitter awhile back Amanda Jane Jones and I got talking on twitter about how we both grew up in Kansas (I grew up a lot of places) only to piece together we had in fact met two summers ago, albeit briefly, at a shop in Alexandria, Virgina. Since then we've both come a long way. Amanda's graphic design work is always popping up around the web these days, but perhaps most she is most recognizable as the art director behind the beautiful print magazine, Kinfolk, a guide for small gatherings. This summer her husband's job took them to Geneva, and the two were one serious duo of jetsetters, creating beautiful online travelogues along the way. last trip taken:
Cree and I relocated to Geneva, Switzerland for the summer (he had an internship at the UN) and traveled to Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Bath, London, Oxford, Rome and then Johannesburg, South Africa. (Loved every minute!)

next trip on deck:
We are going to Idaho to visit Cree's family at Christmas.

one place you would go back to again and again:
I think I left part of my heart in Copenhagen. I could grow old there.

place you'd most likely recommend a friend go visit:
One of my favorite places on earth is the white sand dunes at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The beaches are never too crowded, and the water is just right. Sometimes I feel like it's like my secret...no one knows about it!

preferred method of transportation:
Cree and I like to travel by car. We love to make pit stops in small towns.

place you've never been but dying to go:
I'd love to visit Morocco someday....I also think Jerusalem would be fascinating.

place you'd never go back:
This is going to sound awful, but the only place I could think of was Berlin. I didn't really fall in love with the city.

most memorable trip in 2 sentences or less:
Every trip is memorable in it's own way...I don't think I can pick!

how do you prepare for a trip?
1. Ask friends for suggestions.
2. Download a map onto my iphone (I get lost so easily).
3. Pick a rad Airbnb.
4. Pack light (try to at least) - but include a light blanket for a little park break and snacks so you don't have to eat out every meal.

how do you record your travels when you're traveling?
I use instagram, a journal and try to update my blog regularly. You can see your recent travel posts on our travelogue.

what is your favorite thing to photograph in a new place?
The architecture and flea markets.

on an average, how many pictures to you take on a trip?
Oh! I'd be embarrassed to admit. Let's just say, I have a very patient husband.

what's in your "designer travel kit" ? 
My Canon 5D and my iphone.

what do you do after a trip? how long after a trip does this happen?
I blog, and not as quickly as I should!

favorite souvenir/thing to bring back?
I love to find little inexpensive trinkets—things that won't take up room in a suitcase. In Paris we bought a tiny vintage key. On the Matterhorn, we bought a tiny cow-bell. In Copenhagen, a wooden horse and in Berlin we bought some vintage stamps. Just something small to remember the trip by.
